Programming and Updating the electronic units at Tesla is done primarily through two methods: Over-the-Air (OTA) Software Updates and Service Updates.
OTA updates are performed via the vehicle's wireless connection and allow new software versions to be downloaded and installed on the vehicle's system.
Tesla vehicle owners receive notifications in the vehicle's dashboard and in the Tesla mobile app when a new update is available.
Service updates are done when modules are changed and often, when certain problems need to be fixed.
Although updating software on Tesla vehicles is usually a smooth and hassle-free process, as with any software update, some snags can sometimes happen.
Some problems can occur after a software update, for example any of these:
1-Connectivity issues: Updating the software may affect the vehicle's connectivity, which may cause problems with the connection to the mobile network or Wi-Fi.
2-Touchscreen issues: Updating the software can also affect the vehicle's touchscreen, which can cause the screen to become unresponsive or some buttons to not work.
3-Vehicle performance problems: In some cases updating the software can affect the performance of the vehicle, causing it to feel different when driven. We have also cases that after an OTA Update the vehicle could not be charged or/and alerts appeared
4-Application compatibility issues: Some applications and features of the vehicle may not be compatible with the new version of the software, which may cause problems in their operation.
Usually we can solve all these problems.
